As adherents of the Islamic Faith prepare to begin the Ramadan fast tomorrow, Wednesday, authorities of 23 Armoured Brigade in Yola, Adamawa State, yesterday announced the review of a curfew imposed on the state following the declaration of a state of emergency there by President Goodluck Jonathan.
A statement issued by the brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Lt. Ja’afar Nuhu, said the 8.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m. curfew in force had been reviewed upward to 11.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m.
The army noted: “In view of improved security situation in Adamawa and the up-coming month of Ramadan, the headquarters of the 23 Brigade wishes to inform the public that with effect from July 8, 2013, the curfew timing will be from 11.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m. This is to enable law-abiding citizens pursue their religious obligations in an atmosphere of peace and harmony.”
It would be recalled that since the declaration of emergency rule in May, this is the third time the army authorities are reviewing the curfew. The first curfew imposed in Adamawa was from dusk to dawn when the emergency rule was announced, then it was reviewed to 7.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m.; before it was later reviewed again to 8.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m.; and now 11.00p.m. to 5.00 a.m.
